Studying Monash computer network and security

The purpose of this project is to study Monash computer network in order to suggest a practical implementation to secure it. This step involves: identify the business nature of Monash University, the network architecture and the wired and wireless communications.
Moreover, this study covers the network servers and services.

Abstract:

Building a secure network from the first step is much easier than study a network already was built and then protects it. Study the network is a little difficult but not impossible and it encourages adventure. These papers show a study for the security of computer network of Monash University. The study covered many important topics in the field of network security such as: network architecture, important servers, types of network communications, network services, protecting Monash network, security policy and email server policy.

Introduction:

One of the most difficult challenges to every business is that the securing of computer systems and networks. Usually large businesses, in order to have communications with their partners and provide accesses to their staff, are connected to both public and private networks. Therefore, some of networks computers: clients and servers might be restricted to private access, such as within a company, and others might be open to public access.

However, all accesses should be protected from any potential attack that may occur.
Security involves all activities that businesses undertake to protect the resources and the integrity and confidentiality of information. Identify threats and the network vulnerabilities are the first step that is required to have an effective network security strategy. Then choose the most powerful set of tools to prevent them.

This report is intended to study briefly Monash network and propose security policies to protect the network which is a kind of complex network. The reason of this complex is that the huge number of network users and the different polices for them.
